Does a travel eSIM come with a phone number?
Quick answer
Most Olysim plans are data only, so they do not come with a phone number for calls or SMS. Your own number stays on your normal SIM, and apps like WhatsApp keep working on the eSIM's data.
This is one of the most common questions we get, so here is the simple version.
What you can do with a data-only eSIM
- Browse, use maps and book rides.
- Use WhatsApp, FaceTime, Messenger and other apps for messages and calls over the internet.
- Share data with a hotspot.
What it does not do
- It does not give you a local phone number.
- It cannot make normal phone calls or receive SMS.
If a plan includes calls or a number, the plan page says so clearly before you buy.
What about my own number?
Keep your normal SIM turned on if you want calls and SMS on your own number. Those use your home network's roaming, not Olysim, so check its roaming prices first.
Common questions
Can I call people with a data-only eSIM?
Yes, through internet apps like WhatsApp or FaceTime. Normal phone calls are not included.
Will my WhatsApp number change?
No. WhatsApp stays on your own number. It just uses the eSIM's data to connect.
